I just bought a 81 that the genius that used to own it decided that fixing oil leaks or checking the dipstick is for real men and in his infinite wisdom, he air-conditioned the block with a rod. (While you're chuckling, let me tell you what I paid for an otherwise straight truck--drum roll please--- tada!!!--$100.00.) Any way to get to the point, one of my fine automotive engineers at my favorite boneyard has told me that an isuzu pup 2.0 or 2.2 will bolt up to my 1.8 intake, exhaust, and tranny. Now, knowing that that he has the most home-made tattooes and the least teeth of anyone in the yard makes me lean towards believing him,but I don't want to buy a motor and find out that it won't fit.(You see that would let out the secret about my I.Q.-and we can't have that happen, now can we?) If anyone else knows what bigger isuzu block will fit, I would be eternally grateful to you and yours. I just want to get it on the road for 2 reasons:A. To calm my old lady down and get me back in the house because my stingy dog won't share his food or water and looks at me funny and grouls when I try to cuddle, and B. Because I wan't to get my buddies to stop saying that my truck is the product of a bad bowel movement and that my mind is having sex and somehow I've lost it.(Imagine that!!) By for now!!--TAZ

I would ditch the 4-speed replace it with a carbureted 2.3L out of an 83 or so(?) with the 5-speed tranny. It wouldn't be all that hard to fit (I don't think). I'm short on money, so I'm going with a G200 (1.9) block mated to the stock tranny.

Just my 2 pennies...

If you want an auto tranny, then go for it.

Hey I am not one to turn down free help- I appreciate your input, I was just wondering where everyone else was hiding. I don't want to get too elaborate, because I'm eventually gonna put an in-line Quad 4 with a Turbo 400 tranny and a Monza rear-end in it. I just wanted to pretend I was at a cathouse and try to get the best bang for my buck, since all 4-bangers cost the same at the boneyard. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Later-TAZ
