My truck idles around 1200, or at a low of 1k

But when its cold it is like 800 or something, and runs really rough,

What do i need to adjust to make my truck run at its BEST. I've tried adjusting the screws on the side, I know that one is the idle screw, but what is the other one, is it the mixing screw?

and if so , how do i adjust it. haha

helpppp

Save yourself a lot of frustration and buy a Weber..seriously...slap the thing on...do the base tuning and away you go..easy as that...other than that I can't help you much...all I did to my Hicrappy was rebuild it once before I got my Weber

does nobody know how to adjust them for the best performance?

I know its best to get a weber, but I am NOT made of money, and I can't afford a weber, and until then I just want to adjust it to work at its best.

For the mixture screw, how far in or out does it need to be? and what is best to idle at.

thanks guys.

i hope someone can help

This is all provided you have everything else in order, vac, fuel delivery etc good points, fire etc.

If you have AC, I think you have to remove and plug the vac advance to the distributer.

First advance your distributer a little advanced, back n forth listen to how the engine settles and idles, then adjust your idle screw til you have about 1100 rpms(warm). Pop the throttle linkage a few times to make sure it settles there, I noticed my fast idle for the AC could sometimes hang it open a few hundred rpms. Then start turning and counting(screw turns) your mixture screw clockwise until it starts to run crappy, but not til it dies. Make note how may turns... now count back ward to where you started from, turn & count counterclockwise until it starts to run crappy again. What you want is somewhere right in the middle of those 2 numbers(think the book states 2.5 turns open from almost closed), then one final tweek of the idle screw to your satisfaction. And pay attention to how the engine sounds, and throttle response, it should 'vroom' while you quickly hit the throttle, not slight bog then vroom. Tuning these is not tricky, but can be a little picky depending on your level of OCD. Me... I tended to retune mine based on the outside temp and if it "just didn't sound right" :)

Then I opted for a Weber, and like to keep mine idling at about 1000-1200, seems to be more responsive. To me anyway

right on thank you.

i appreciate that information.

and i read up on the other carb thread that i should advance the timing to like 10 degrees.

should i do that AFTER i make these adjustments? or before.

thanks.

and btw. my throttle gets stuck all the time, and i have to tap the gas to get it unstuck. haha

andd, did you get a weber, or are you still usin hitachi. thanks again
