Hey Nasty Nick!
I hope you are having fun! My timing chain broke last year and I replaced it. I have a few posts related to it. Type in timing chain with "Dottie" as the author in the search feature at top and read those threads. There are some good tips that people gave me. Like how to get the crank shaft bolt off if you haven't done so already. Also, hopefully you had the #1 cyclinder at top dead center when you started taking it apart. Good luck!

Dottie

Hey Dottie, thanks for the help... I have one big question, does the head have to come off to get at the timing chain/gear and all that?

I would recommend you read the manual a couple of times before digging into it. Also do the search like Dottie mentioned and study that as well. With all of that info you should be fine.

Hey i thank everybody for all the help!! i ended up not jumping into the timing chain set up ...looked like more then me and my friend could handle......but i started to look deep in the dist. cap and noticed a frayed wire (condenser??) so looked deeper and noticed that my points were hitting lower then it was supposed to ...it ended up busting through on one side and really not doing anything sooooo .......i took back the $68 timing chain set up and bought $20 points and condenser....put that in and set the gap to 16-17...then tunned carb. put in new anti freeze (had it) then checked timing...timing still jumps around but now its w/ in specs...it jumps between 8* and 12*........longer story cut shorter, it runs ......and it runs a little better then it ever had since i have had it...(plus the new clutch helped)......hahah NasTY
