I know it may seem kind of a dumb questions especially since i have said in the past how i know a bunch about wiring, i have soem ideas, but with my new job and being between moving i was just wondering waht would cause this most commonly, i.e. poor ground loose connection some where.. corroded fuse box mabye? I just dont haev time to really get into anythign since this truck IS my way to work...

thanks in advance,
Dustin

Is this going on while the truck is moving, or when you come to a stop?

The light switch itself is probably the easiest and first thing I'd swap. I don't think it's sealed, and the contacts can get stuff in 'em.

As stupid as it sounds, check the three prong connectors on the back of the headlight bulbs. They can also get junk in them, a pocket knife or nail file will clean them up enough to see if they are a contributing problem. A sealed beam will sometimes still work with a crack, or even a hole in the lens. The Wagner Halogens definately do this, and it can do strange things to the charging system.

Check the connector to the Voltage Regulator, pull it apart and if a handful of junk falls out, well...

If you haven't pulled the fuse box and 'lemon squeezed' it, I'd also do that.

Are the dash lights dimming? Do the blinkers slow down/speed up?

Throwing some quick and inexpensive checks up here, it's no fun to be worried about your daily driver... More info on symptoms would be helpful :)

My guess would be the ground.
You can never have too many grounds.

i thought of the grounds myself and plan on making a bunch of new ones also... and the dash lights dim aswell i didnt think about it and im not sure about wether they do it when im moving or not, i just remember right away that they do it... and my tryck dont have a voltage regulator i swapped it out along with my alt for a GM one wire system(i went through 4 voltage regulators and 3 alts in about a month! got pissed and got rid of them) Also on another note i noticed today after work that when i had my head lights on my truck said i was overheating, and when i turned them off it went back to normal(i dont know why i turned them off when i saw it overheating, i guess a long night of work will do that to you) and as for the blinkers i switched the unit for an extra hazard light one instead since i dont have front markers and they were getting worn out to fast without them, now they are slower, and yes they do some times slow down but go right back to normal afterwards... i hope i dont have anymore electrical gremlins i already took out my harness to fix it 3 times now... Another thing is that my gague cluster is from a 76 but i modified the plug to hook up correctly to my 79 harness that was in the old cab... and my headlights are also meant for a 76 so i had to splice in the 76 part of the harness to use all 4 of my lights...

I hope this dosent confuse anyone, i just got off work so it may have grammatical errors and seem kinda garbled that a 5 year old just wrote it...

thanks
-Dustin

Ditto:
Grounds can cause gremlins that most people do not check. German cars(VW's) suffer from this a lot

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.

I would get a voltage gague, or find a way to rig up a volt meter to your power, and see what the voltage is doing. I know on my truck, I push 12.5v right when I start up, 14v when i'm above 1.5kRPM, and 13v from there on when idle. I don't notice flickering in the regular headlights, but I can certainly see a lighting difference in 12v vs 14v for my off-roaders.

are you using stock headlights, or higher-wattage ones?

and ditto to everyone elses advice.
