Hello I am a new LUV owner I bought a 1979 LUV 4x4 a mere 2 days ago. 52k original miles On a never modified truck with some paint damage and dents but basically in really good shape. I notice it has cables and a pan for a second batterie. The family of the deceased owner thought it was because it had a wench and I assumed it was something added by the owner. However looking under the hood it looks like it was original equipment. At this time the truck only has one battery in it and the cables for the second are loose in the engine compartment (something I need to remedy before I have a problem).

My question is this: is this a factory set up with two batteries? I can’t find anything in the original owners manual or in online searches so far. Any help would be appreciated.

That was never an option. There would be no reason for a gas powered 4 cylinder to need dual batteries. Has to be a add on by somebody else. Since it’s a 4x4 would think that winch option is my best guess.
