Hi, im new to owning a Chevy 1979 luv and new to this forum. I got a luv that had been sitting for about 8 months. It ran before that, but then previous owner stopped driving it (my friend so i trust the info). I got it to start with jumper cables, some starter fluid, and changing out the gas.It continues to run even with my foot off the gas pedal. The problem is that when i change gears it turns off completely, and it wont turn back on at all. The only way i can get it to start again is with a jump, but it seems to completely shut off as soon as i change gears. Any advice? I was thinking of starting with the carb, but am not sure if this is the prob. has anyone else had this problem?

Check the main wiring harnes in the engine compartment right as it passes close to the clutch cable. On my old 79 I had it somehow rub through.
