I've recently installed an Isuzu C240 engine in my pickup. It mated nicely to the LUV transmission and everything looks good so far. The thing I'm having trouble with is the alternator. My wiring is in need of a complete overhaul. I need to make a new harness going to the alternator and I need to know what signals go to the 3 spade lugs in the connector.

The wiring diagram that I have is so hard to read that it is useless.

Can anyone direct me to a readable wiring diagram for a diesel alternator or just tell me what the 3 signals are?

I can make out the color of the 3 wires at the entrance to the alternator. White/green stripe, white/blue stripe, and plain white.

Thanks for any help that you can provide.

There's a schematic for an '83 diesel at http://www.isuzupup.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=11753. I'm not sure how much will apply to your engine and your truck.

I haven't heard of a C-240 that's suitable for road use, so I hope you'll tell us more about it. I didn't know there was a version that would bolt up to a LUV transmission.

The color image was perfect - exactly what I need to move forward with my project.

Thanks so much for the help.

The C240 uses an identical bolt pattern for the transmission, though most of them come equipped with an SAE industrial flywheel and flywheel housing. Just remove the industrial parts and add the automotive parts from your old, worn out engine.

There are a number of other small issues to deal with and each is a story in itself. The throttle actuator can be a challenge.

My project has taken me several years to complete so I will put together some steps, pictures, etc and post them on the diesel topic at LUVTruck.com as I get them together.

Thanks again for your help.

Glad to help. But aren't these engines severely rev-limited? And does the oil sump fit into the frame? Does the alternator have a vacuum pump?
