Hello everyone!

I need some help valuing a LUV that my Mom has in an estate. I don't have a whole lot of information about it, or good pictures but anything helps. My great uncle bought it brand new in 1980. He drove around for a few weeks before he died. Since then it has been sitting in this garage. It currently has 67 miles on it. My other great uncle, whose estate we are settling, said maybe 2 years ago that he had it running a few years before then. I can't confirm or deny that. It has a manual transmission and ac. I got the best pictures I could considering it was locked, in gear and we haven't found the keys. The interior is immaculate, and the body is solid with no real rust on it. Thanks in advance for the help.

We had someone with a 1981 diesel (different truck, but similar condition and circumstances) with under 200 miles on it. It was listed on the isuzupup.com site for $13,000, if I recall correctly. It had multiple offers within 1/2 hour of listing. It could have brought more. The buyer wa VERY happy with the truck.

Thanks for the responses! So what do you guys think it is worth as it sits, not running?

If you want top dollar, you need to roll it outside and take enough pictures to show that its condition is consistent with the mileage listed. That would include good interior, underbody and engine compartment photos.

There's no mechanical reason it's not running, other than bad fuel and probably some gunk in the carb and on the plugs, right? Seems it should need a new set of belts and hoses, new oil and filter, and maybe have the fuel system drained and purged.

Unless you're in a hurry, I'd start with a high asking price and lower it gradually until you get a buyer. I told you what the minty '81 diesel sold for. Now, here's why I'm not qualified to go further than that advice: I'm a diesel fan, which makes me place less value on pre-1981 LUVs (because none of them in the US were diesel). The die-hard 1st gen fans would be the authorities on whether it should be more, or less than that '81 I described.

I'm no authority, but maybe close to $10,000 as it sits, $15,000 running? Assuming you can get the keys and title.

It's clearly worth more than it cost new, but unfortunately these trucks aren't "collectors items."

Let us know if you decide to sell it. I'm curious to know what it brings.

Thanks guys. I'm sure all it needs is a tune up, I was just asking to see what your opinions were. As soon as we are able I will definitely take some better pictures and get a real look at it.

You can have a locksmith come out and make a key using the door lock. I had one done last week that cost $108 with WA tax. Would add considerably more than that to the sale value to have the keys

No kidding. That alone says a lot about the claim of it being in a garage for 30+ years
