Hey guys.
first post.
I recently got a 1979 sky blue luv.
Well taken care of. Slight rust but not much because it has been in NM it's whole life. 69,000 miles. New gaskets on the engine. Doesn't leak. Paid 3,300.

The problem:
So i am driving to work a few days ago and as I am attempting to decelerate it starts revving. I throw it in neutral. Still revving. Turn it off. And turn it on. Still revving. I tear out into my work parking lot and park it and turn it off.

There is a hole in the muffler which causes it to backfire which I planned to fix this week.

It was driven it's entire life by the original old owner who never drove it on the highway.

There was some mouse nest on top of the engine I got out pretty quick.

Throttle cable seems ok.
nothing obvious. Think it's inside the carb maybe.

Thanks guys.

M

Vacuum leaks will cause engine to rev high. You need to check the vacuum lines for cracks, splits, dry rot or mouse chewings. Pay careful attention to under hood vacuum diagram sticker. It will help make sure the lines are installed in proper location and give you an idea where it all goes.
There are 3 wires going from wiring harness to rear of carb. 1 of those wires controls the idle circuit, just make sure they are connected and that mouse didn't chew in 1/2. Also pull the connector apart and make sure terminals inside are not corroded. If they are clean them. Keep us informed about what you find out.
Mike.
