Hey all, new to the site, and coincidentally Chevy Luvs.

I recently bought my boyfriend a -you guessed it- '79 LUV, was really well taken care of by the guy I bought it from and so far has been great. The issue we're having is that it keeps popping out of 4WD, it will slip back to 2WD in....
High reverse
low reverse
High forward
NOT low forward

4 low she runs pretty fantastic though!

Any thoughts about what's going on?

(PS upgraded her tires from these- you're right, the ones in the photo ARE dangerous bare 8) )

Thanks!
Maggie

There is a spring on top of the trans/transfer case that is accesable by removing the boot in the cab. I will try to get a picture from the manual. This has solved a few that have had the same issue as you.

I may very well be looking in the wrong spot, I don't think I am (a picture would be great!), but I don't see a spring at all- is that possible? The reason for all the wonkiness maybe?

Thanks!

Maggie

I'm not with my truck to take a picture right now. It's just under the shift boot just under the floor were the shifter comes through. If you don't see a spring there, yours probably broke and fell off at some point.
