Gah! Can't remove this therm housing for the life of me!! Tappa tappa tappa, rinse, repeat. I'm going to try mixing a solution (acetone/auto trans fluid) next if I can't get it off on my next try. I've done a general search and it looks as if I break this housing it won't be easy to find another one. Is this correct?

I'll do my best not to break it, but some of the aluminum around the edge has already been chipped off a bit from someone else trying to remove it.

Anyone know any other tips and/or a place to get another housing??

Thanks everyone! I think everything under the hood is being held in place by dirt...that's turned into a glue over the years and nothing - will - come - off....unless I don't want it to. haha

If that one breaks, you're going to be stuck finding a used one. The 72-75 motors are different than the 76-82 motors. I suspect the thermosrat housing doesn't interchange between those as not much of anything else does either.

You might be able to find someone who's parting one out in the classifieds section.

Possible that I got one, I would have to see if it is still on the truck...

Thanks for the reply, guys! I haven't broken it yet, but I'm assuming that if I can't get it unstuck then it's going to have to be broken in order to take it off. Needs to come off regardless, at this point. I'm still trying to finesse it....

mytmouz - It would be awesome if you had one for me, if this one snaps...Just let me know at some point!

As always, I appreciate the assistance...so much dirt....

Is that the 1600 Isuzu engine in that ute? If it is an early Toyota corolla or celica thermostat housing may fit that's what I use on my florian engine.

They didn't put the 1600s in LUVs stateside. 72-75 had a 1.8 and 76-82 had a different 1.8. Both were Isuzu engines.

Took the words out of my mouth, drummer! Haha. But, if there are other vehicles I can take parts off of, I wanna know so thanks for the input mr.flibbles.

Oh, and you mean you don't want to dig around for parts in bad weather for a stranger?? Just let me know if/when you have some time! I'm not in a huge hurry. It's been too cold for me to play, too. I'm thinking i'll get back out there on Sunday and see if I can work some magic...speaking of which, anyone have any magic I can borrow?

The best penetrating oil I have used is called PB Blaster and most auto parts chain stores carry it. I would squirt it down and let the PB blaster do its job.

Well, my hopeful thinking didn't help at all. That therm housing is welded together. I pulled the entire thing out (and discovered my gasket to the head was completely rotten). PB Blaster didn't do anything other than help me pull the washers off. Next step will be to put it in a vice, I guess. Tappa tappa tappa...I'm hoping there's no more white stuff falling from the sky, so if you remember to check for your "spare" housing, i'd be forever grateful! :ebiggrin

*fist shaking*

So much dirt....

OK, I was able to look at it between monsoons. I have it on a 1975, I guess they are the same?. Do you need just the top or the whole thing? (Looks like the top bolts to a piece that bolts to the block, I don't do stockers...)

Myyy Heeeeeeeero!! *dramatic arm gestures and loud singing inserted here*

I pulled the whole thing out, and I'm still trying to get that &$&*#^*¥£€ housing off so perhaps the whole thing would be just the answer. I'll pm you later with some contact info. :signlove
