Let me start off with I love the luv! I have always wanted one after I drove one that my friend owned. So my questions are to ensure that im not making a bad decision, because im blinded by luv.

Whats the mpg, its the gas engine not diesel?
Top speed? What to look at before I buy? How reliable is it? Can I swap out for a 4 cyl Cummins diesel?

And is this a good deal?? I love the step side look.

Assuming everything works properly, 30mpg isn't uncommon. Top speed would probably be around 75 or 80. The 76 had 4.56:1 gears in the rear and no overdrive. It really roars on the interstate.

Don't know what to tell you about the 4 cyl cummins swap. Don't think it's been done on here, but a couple of people have swapped a 4 cyl Isuzu diesel.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I'd pay that for one that looked like that.

If it were local, I would own it...

A 4bt swap into a luv would be cool, but you would have to hack the heck out of it for it to fit. And those weigh near 800 lbs which would be like adding a small car to the front of your luv. Not worth it in my opinion. Do a sbc/lsx swap or do something different like a rotary. If you really want to roll coal swap in the isuzu deisel

Was that the same truck that was bought in Ventura Ca within a year ago and shipped East?

If you went that route, you'd really need a 3.73 rear end to go with it. Most of these engines came with 5-speeds.

I've talked him down to $ 1200. It has a lot of rust, in the engine bay. All of the rust on the outside I think wouldn't be to bad of a fix. It will need two new tires (they're cracked) so what are the stock tire size and how much are they?
I checked the oil cap, no crap. I also checked the radiator cap, it was good. It didnt show any signs of an oil leak, no stains or anything. All the lights work. It was hit on the driver side. The door and front fender are slightly pushed in, but I think I can fix it. And he's giving me a door that matches, just a different color.
