We recently bought a 1976 Chevy Luv to redo for our son. This has turned into quite the undertaking. One thing has happened after another. So we have followed all the problems to the cylinder head being cracked. We found a replacement one same size and such for the truck however we got the part in and noticed a little difference and we're stumped. This is our first time to really get this detailed in overhauling any part of an engine other than minor repairs so we really don't know what this space void is for or if its not needed what we use to plug the space with. Any advice would be great.

The hole is for a mechanical fuel pump, make a flat plate steel cover and block it off.

It does have a license plate so technically it is a street truck, that sets off car alarms and makes kids cry. lol

Oz is correct, block it off and forget about it.
