Hello I'm Mark and this is my current Luv. Its a 79 2wd stepside. Recently purchased and shipped from California. Pretty rusty in spots for a CA truck. Wish I would have req more pics. I am the son of a car guy who gave me no choice but to follow the same path. He painted up a 78 2wd step for my sister and I when we got our licenses. We trashed the stock motor after a few years then went with a short lived 6 cyl then put a small block in it. It lasted years but after a slight fender bender got put to the side and has sat since(20 years). Its funny but my dad wont let me do anything with it now but im still working on it.I have loved these trucks ever since and in the past few years have had a chance to drag a few home to play with. I bought a 81 2wd diesel Luv in Vegas and drove it 1800 miles home.I sold it. I think the 72-80 looks better.I also have a 86 trooper turbo diesel that will be a expensive parts truck for a future Luv project.
I am looking to turn this blue 79 into my daily commuter(27 mi).The previous owner told me this is a reman/rebuilt(?) motor from some outfit in TX. He told me it has the updated steel cyl head that im not sure about. It seems to run good when its running. Having slight issues im fighting thru but im learning. My goal is to get it running smooth before I do my drivability upgrades.
My immediate plans are to do the pup 5 spd, driveshaft, rear end install. Still need the rear. Hopefully this will improve the drivability.

I have seen it on CL a few times. It is a good start and the rust can be fixed. Hopefully the floors aren't too bad. You will find the area behind the rust on the front fenders packed with road dirt. Looks like a keeper. 8)

Yes I had watched it on and off CL for a year or better. The rust can be fixed and the most important part: cab/cab floors are great with no holes. I was surprised to see a large rust hole on the drivers door sill and the hood has holes I can put my fingers thru. Door sill is easy to fix/hide but Ive never seen a hood rust like that and I live in the Midwest where we use salt on our roads.Ive been looking for Luv trucks on every drive Ive been on for the last 25 years.Luvs don't last around here.My truck is a great start for sure but no rust issues to me means no holes.I thought the hood would be worth a mention and I asked specifically about the front bumper, and one side of it is nearly touching the headlight. Its hit something not hard but enuff to push one side of it into the fender. It was my fault to not ask more questions or for more pics.I could have saved some money.Happy to have it and cant wait to get a pup 5 spd and rear in it. I plan to have it painted 71 Corvette Bridgehampton blue but I want to get it driving good before I pretty it up too much
