My father recently passed away leaving me his 1981 luv. He was working on it but said it had a vacuum leak and would not run right. I have had one mechanic look at it but he also couldn't figure it out. Now I think I just want to sell it but with it not running pick and pull only offered me $200. Is the truck worth fixing?

The truck looks to be in good condition. It would be a waist for you to sell it at pick n pull yard. Even with it not running a Craigslist ad should fetch you about 800 to 1500 or best offer. I would try that 1st or keep asking questions here & maybe you could get her running again. Then you have a memory of your dad everywhere you drive her. My 2 cents.

Looks real clean. Are you in the USA?

First, condolences on the loss of your dad.

Second, like the others said--it looks clean. I think it would be worth $1,000 or more WITHOUT the motor. There are plenty of guys who would put a diesel into it.

I wouldn't even think of selling it without knowing what the engine problems are. It would bring much more if running well.

1. Sorry to hear about your fathers passing.
2 DO NOT SCRAP that truck, it looks to be in very good shape and that it is not heard very often with a LUV, sounds like it should be an easy fix with the help of the experts here (I am not one of them :esurprised ). Personally, I would fix it in your fathers memory and keep it if possible. I am rebuilding my Grandfathers 39 Chevy and will be putting probably 4 times of what it is worth into it to get it back to running/showroom condition in his memory. Sounds you will have to spend very little to get that truck running again. Not sure what type of mechanic you took it to, but todays cars tell you what is wrong with them and computers tell the mechanic how to fix them. The LUV was built in the pre-computer era and newer mechanics have no clue how to fix or troubleshoot older vehicles (just like auto parts stores now cant do anything without the computer anymore). If these guys here cant get you on the right track, you need to find an old school mechanic in your area who can actually figure out what is wrong.
Good luck! 8)

That truck looks great, please don't let it go to the junk yard. Where are you located, there might be a member her close by to help fix it or make you a offer.

Sympathies for the loss of your father. I also lost mine July 3rd of this year. Memories galore.

I totally agree with the other inputs out here about your LUV.

Thanks for all the input. I did list it on Craigslist but had one offer for $1000 but I think he wants to part it out. You are right I called the chevy garage and they do not have anyone who works on carburetors. Have another mechanic coming to look at it. I am located in Merced, Ca. I have three carburetors with it and I think that is the problem but this girl does not work on trucks. Dad loved hunting in this truck and it is clean but driven hard and wrecked a couple of times but dad always put it back together. He just rebuilt the motor and put $850 worth of tires on it and no miles cuz he never got it to idle correctly. He had it running but it crapped out when it came to a stop. He thought vacuum leak but never found it.
