I have a 1980 4x4 that goes dead as a doornail. The fuse box was cleaned, but is still a problem.

What is being used as a replacement?

Before you go to all that trouble, get yourself a multimeter and check out a few things. Unlike some of the newer cars, the fuse box is right there under the hood, and the wiring is basic and easy to trace. I used to think wiring was difficult until a bought a Basic Automotive Wiring book from Amazon. Another thing you can do is go to Youtube. Scotty Kilmer has lots of videos on everything from finding short circuits to replacing computers. There are others doing the same who's names I don't remember right now. Also do a close inspection of as much wiring as you can, especially where it connects. Sometimes fan belts come off and hit something and knock a wire loose, and if it's a hot wire that's bouncing around and shorting out you should be able to see it.
