Whenever I turn on the key (either run or acc) the fuel pump comes on and stays on.. I guess my question would be is this normal? Looked at fuel pump relay and has wires on it not sure if there hooked up. Relay is all corroded though, if I need to replace it where can I get it..having problems ordering stuff from dodozone, act like they have never heard of a luv

Mine does that too, like when I had the carb off i put the fuel line in a container and it just kept pumping into it with the key on. I could be wrong but I don't think that is a problem, it should keep pressure on all the time if the key is on and the float/needle just keep the carb from overflowing and only let in what it needs to have in the bowl. As for buying a relay just as a preventive thing, I know you can get them online (ebay or something) if you are having trouble with local parts shops

It's not correct. It is supposed to only run when the key is in the START position, and then it is energized by one of the prongs on the alternator. This is to prevent gas from being pumped everywhere in the event of an accident. If the engine dies, so does the fuel pump.

Guess apparently something isn't right on mine either then! :( Before I got it running right I could hear the fuel pump going even after then engine died. Sorry for the misinformation, glad you caught it drummer!

It seems to be fairly common that the fuel pump relay gets wired around. Sometimes the relay fails, or sometimes people just don't realize that the pump only runs at START and when the alternator is spinning.

Remember, safety third!
