Finally got around to pulling the air cleaner and taking a good look at my carb. I took some pics so maybe you guys could help me out. Is this even the factory carb?

I didn't know they had electric choke. There is a 4 pin wire harness that runs to various parts of the carb, and if you unplug it the truck tries to die, so it must be doing something. But how does the electric choke work on these? Only way i can get it to run when it's not up to operating temps is to manually use the choke and that's just annoying. I didn't really see anything brand wise on it, though it is pretty dirty and needs cleaned off. That IS the idle screw in the first picture, towards the bottom left..correct? But if this is stock, can anyone tell me where the mixture screw is located? I had done a search but didn't find the answers I was looking for. Just changed the awful looking sparkplugs and color wise they were a little on the lean side. The last picture shows that black thing that looks like it says rich and lean with arrows, but I have no clue what to do with it?!

One of these days I will have money for a weber and hopefully then I won't have these issues! Thanks

In your first picture---on the lower cast iron section of the carb, pointing towards you the mixture screw is in a recessed hole there. The choke---on the body at the top, there should be an index mark with a coresponding mark or line on the plastic cover. You lossen the screws and rotate the plastic body to line these two up.
With the engine stone cold when you open the throttle the spring inside should just close the choke. After start up the choke will gradually open up in 5--10 minutes as the heat from the electric element inside opens it. This is how its supposed to work.

Thanks for the great info! I cleaned the carb a little more, and i did find 2 recessed holes just to the right of the idle screw. I cleaned them out but was unable to feel any screws with my screwdrivers to turn. Are they just flat tip? I can't really see in the hole too good. Worst case that carb is probably coming off in the next week or so for cleaning so I guess I can get them then. As for the black piece on the back, it didn't look like there were any screws to losen, it looks like it is all just riveted on there. And last as far as the choke goes, if I hit the throttle before starting it doesn't close the choke, and if I close it, when it warms up, it doesn't seem to open any on it's own?

Appreciate the help though! I'm going to get this thing running one way or the other!

I still see what looks to be a flat screw driver adjust hole. It looks to be about 2 inches to the right of the idle adjust screw and down about 2 inches. Right at the very base of the carb. Hard to tell though with it not in front of me, it could just be an unused and plugged off port or something. Sounds like the choke may have a disconnected linkage or maybe a broken spring inside.

After some more cleaning I think i know what you are talking about, there is like a little metal cap down there at the bottom so i'm sure I have to dig that out first to even get to the screw. Noticed when I was setting the ignition timing and trying to clean up some, I think my carb has an air leak right at the base, so it will definitely be coming off this weekend. And if i am thinking about that right, wouldn't an air leak there lean out the engine? explaining why my plugs were more white than brown and that my mixture screw may not be far off.

I have always tried to avoid messing with that mixture screw. The times I have I spent quite a bit of time working on it and ended up almost exactly the same place it started. Unless you make some changes from stock it shouldn't need much adjusting really. It would make the most difference if you changed to a performance cam, exhaust header, upgrade to a G200 or overbore on a rebuilt G180, or maybe big exhaust upgrades.

Well a previous owner at some point has put a header on it, that seems to be about the extent of motor work (they damn sure didn't clean it off ever, yay for 30 years of crap building up on the engine!). I think I will just tear apart what i can and replace seals, then mount it back with a new gasket and see if fixing the leak get's her running right! Never torn apart a carb from a car before thou, just atv's and motorcycles, so i'm glad the rebuild kit came with a diagram!

Got it! That carb plate was leaking horribly. Pulled off the carb and cleaned it up, got the choke working and decent gaskets back on. Little fine tuning still but starts right up, idles like a champ and runs pretty smooth!
