If you wish to keep 4wd then SAS is the way to go to also go V8- the SAS removes the interference between the stock front drivetrain & the V8 oil pan & exhaust. You still can't reuse the stock tranny or t-case, so you're basically stripping your truck down to 2wd to start. If you are going to retain the stock drivetrain then SAS with a 4wd chassis, if you are going to swap the drivetrain then it's much easier to start with a 2wd chassis- a lot less to cut out & discard. If a V8 is more important than 4wd then sell or trade your stock 4x4 for a 2wd version (4x4's are generally worth more than 2wd's) & start from there, it will be much easier and cheaper in the long run. V8 coversion kits are available for 2wd trucks that retain the stock suspension.
