Is it normal for the resistor on these things to get super hot? (assuming the circled thing in the picture is a resistor).

My old LUV, I never remembered it getting so hot that you couldn't touch it.

I'm having an issue where the truck can run/idle fine for about a minute, but then it dies and won't keep running. I'm thinking perhaps it cold be the resistor getting too hot, so it quits passing current properly.

Thanks.

With the engine running it gets quite warm normaly. With the engine stopped but the key on it will get too hot to touch.
Next time the engine stops, look at the fuel level in the carb bowl. Should be half way in the window. Not there? Fuel pump/filter problem likely.
