rotor in distributor not turning what do I need to do to repair? I assume there used to be a gear on the bottom of the shaft. there is not one. where would this end up in the engine? this may be a dumb question but it has me stumped.

The gear stays in the engine. It drives the distributor via a slot the distributor shaft fits into. The same gear also drives the oil pump so that will not operate also. I suspect a key is sheared or drive pin broken at that gear which means the pully, front timing cover, and oil pan has to be pulled for access and repair.
