Just picked up my new project. 76 luv stepside, soon to be ratrod! I've always wanted to build a ratrod, and my toyota truck was just totaled so now i have a chance to do so. I am putting the complete drivetrain out of my 87 toyota pickup in the luv. the motor is a 22r, that is built and ready to ride. Only had 3k miles on it before being totaled.

Anyway, now for some questions. This truck had a camaro rear end in it, but the front bolt pattern is not the same. the front bolt pattern is 5x4.5. I "believe" i read somewhere that the factory bolt pattern was a six lug? I have a few pics of the front end. Does anybody know if this is some kind of aftermarket conversion? Im pretty sure the upper and lower a-arms are factory but not sure about the rest. Any ideas?

Thanks, Mike

Looks like someone adapted a Toyota rotor to the stock front end stuff. Somewhere on this board there is a sticky on this...

Upper and lower arms look stock, upper ball joint, spindle, rotor and caliper are not stock. Caliper looks like its a twin piston so worth hanging on to. Might be worth keeping the set up an have the rotors re-drilled to your chosen lug nut pattern.

I stand corrected, after looking at my home puter instead of the itty bitty screen on my phone, I agree with OZ...

I don't know if you guys can see it in the picture. The tie rod is welded together and is also bent like a mofo. I wouldn't mind keeping the setup, but I have to figure out what it is, so I can replace a few things. Have you guys seen a setup like this before, is it common?

Need more up close pics. What brake pad part number do you buy? That will help give a idea what brakes those are.

Ill pull the brakes apart this weekend, and see if I can find a part number. I will definitely leave this setup on the truck if I can replace the wheel bearings and tierods. The ones on there are trash.

The caliper looks like a late 60's early 70's mustang piece . It might also be AMC parts . The small crossover brake line between the 2 sides leads me to Mustang parts . The rotor is a solid disc like the factory parts .

Ok, so I talked to the original owner who did the 5 lug swap in the front. He told me they were not mustang parts. He said that they were stock luv upper and lower control arms modified to use VOLVO spindles and brakes. Which to my knowledge would also be the same bolt pattern as the mustang. 5x114.

Has anybody seen this done before?

Seen what? THe Volvo stuff could be a possiblity, since the builder claims it so. A 66 Chevy II tie rod (inner, will fit the LUV factory location, the adjuster sleeve is the same as an S10. Not sure on the length the outer will need to be, but you could try the S10/ChevyII combo. (I tried it on mine, but it was too long, but my track width is narrower due to shortened a arms, might be just the ticket for you. If the tie rod to spindle joint is too small on the spindle, you can get a tapered reamer from SPeedway Motors pretty cheap and open it up...

And Volvo bearings and seals, since it is a Volvo spindle. A GOOD parts house can cross over the numbers using the old stuff...
