Hello. I recently purchased a 79 4x4. I luv my luv, but it needs work, and I am not a mechanic. I am having a hard time deciding if I should put money into restoring it, or buying another in better shape or getting a more modern truck(which I'd rather not). Quote for a complete suspension rebuild was 1300. When I purchased it I was told it had a rebuilt engine which I believe, but there is oil getting into my coolant after we flushed radiator and engine. Sounds to me like I need a rebuild/headgasket or a new engine. My plan was to restore a luv instead of paying thousands for a new car. Any incite at all would be appreciated.

That statement right there tells me you should look for something newer and more dependalbe. These trucks need constant attention, esp if they have been neglected. You will be spending money and fixing it constantly. Just look through all the project threads that people start off all gung ho and then after a little time, sell the truck or just take it to the scrap yard.
