I am a proud new owner of a 1982 chevy luv diesel 2wd. I have fixed a few little things so far thanks to this forum and the Isuzupup forum, but know I am at a loss. When I fill my fuel tank completely full the fuel gage works fine. When I have driven it appx 30 or 40 miles the gage show about half full and as I keep driving the needle bounces up and down. After appx 100 to 150 miles the gage show empty. I am getting around 40 mpg and of course I am very happy about that. I would like to fix this gage issue and make it reliable. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Eric

Ok... Can anyone tell me how the fuel gage works. Is there a float in the tank? Are the gages faulty in this year of truck? Is there a common problem with these I should know about? Any help would be appreciated.

Eric

Yes, there's a float attached to a sensor in the tank.

It's a pain in the rear to change, but it shounds like you have no choice. I'm not aware of any "common problems" regarding the sending unit other than they don't last forever.

Your truck is closer to the Izusu Pup so you may get better help as Izusupup.com.

Thank you for the advice. Does the tank need to be drop and drained to do this?
