I got this Luv motor today from my boss at work. He gave it to me. The motor runs and as far as I know there is nothing wrong with it. We used to run a knuckle boom on one of our barges. It was hooked up with highdrolic pumps so I have no transmission for it. I dont know the year of the motor or anything. I want to post pics later of the motor so I can get some help with it. I have heard it run. What is this motor worth. It is in good condition also.

Thanks Travis.

I just answered your other post, and I didn't realize the motor was out of the truck. There are so few differences in the '81 and '82 LUV motor, I'm not sure I could pinpoint the year unless it had the radiator with it. As far as I know, they're identical inside. There were some visible changes from '83-'87, but those were in the P'up--the LUV was out of production by then.

Finding a whole diesel transmission may be hard. Where are you located? It would be important to know whether the motor was originally mated to a 5-speed or an automatic. Probably 5-speed. I'm pretty certain they used different flywheels, so you'd need to make sure you have the right flywheel when you get ready to install the transmission. Clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing, and throwout bearing are all still available new from Isuzu and on the aftermarket. How is the starter mounted, if no transmission? Is it bolted directly to the steel plate on back of the engine?

Jack

do you have a RWD auto in mind for putting it in?

all the luv diesels are 2.2L making about 57hp at max 4,200 rpms torque is about 95 at 2,200 rpms
it would be a good canadate for any compact truck under or around 3,000lbs
there to slow in a S-10 for most people, there closer to 3,500lbs.

granted slow is a reliteve term with these engines, a gen2 2wd luv with the stock diesel takes a firm 20 sec to 60mph

finding that trans housing is going to be a battle.
there hard to come by.
if you find a bad trans with the diesel housing you can transfer it to a easer to find trans out of a gas engine the guts of the trans are the same only the housing and bearing retainer is different..

unless you go for a 4wd then things get more dicey
