Check your front brakes and see if they turn freely after you take a drive.
My LUV got poor mileage but not no 8mpg, more like 20mpg and part of the problem was my front calipers were sticking. I replaced the calipers and it made my mileage go up to around 30mpg.
Now my suburban was getting like 10mpg again sticky front brakes, but it was the brake computer not releasing the anti lock system. Since resolving the problem for the time being it is up above 16mpg.
