Hey all so I bought a 79' 4x4 that ran and drove great when I bought but have since encountered a number of catastrophic failures that so far have led me to 1.replace the transmission because it seized up, that is complete and in working order and 2. Weeks after I replaced the transmission my engine seized up, had oil and everything. So I went ahead and pulled the engine completely dismantled it and upon inspection it had a blown head gasket as well as multiple spun bearings. I brought everything to the machine shop and am having them do what they do. This is my first time rebuilding an engine, I was rebuildibg under the guidance of an older friend of mine who was a mechanic for 30+ years but he has since left the state and I no longer have him overseeing my work. All that being said any tips pointers and so on would be much appreciated. A little bit more about the engine(s) and the project as a whole. So I have both the engine that seized up in the truck as well as a spare that was so rusty I can't even get the pistons out or crank to turn. So far I have, as mentioned dismantled the original engine from the truck and brought it to the machine shop, I decided to use the crankshaft from the spare seeing as though it was in fair condition as opposed to the one in the original that had spun bearings and wear accordingly. I have bought a new water pump, oil pump, full gasket kit, and timing component kit. The only parts I'm seeming to have a hard time sourcing are new main/crank bearings, thrust washers, and pistons/rings. I'm having the crankshaft ground so will need oversize bearings and having the pistons bored 20 over so I'll need 20 over pistons and rings. Does anyone know where to source these? Also upon reassembly I'm a bit intimidated when it comes to putting the timing chain back on and getting the timing right, any input?
