Hi all. I just picked up my first Luv Monday after having looked for awhile. It was partially dis assembled when I got it so I figured it would be a good time to rebuild some things. We started with the carb. I had my dad rebuild it because I'm not so up to snuff on them. We ran into a problem.... We put it all back together and it looks correct from the shop manual pictures but the choke butterfly wont open all the way.... Advice please

Have you tried removing the auto choke and checking to see if it will close manually? I probably have parts if you end up needing anything. I have a couple of parts carbs from '78 and '79 Luvs.

Sorry let me clarify. The butterfly by hand will open and close completely but with the throttle linkage or the choke heated up its not fully open

I would suspect the auto choke is bad or on wrong. Could also be the linkage. Here's some pics of a working carb. I can easily push down on the linkage and the choke will open fully.

Hope these help.

I think I got it workable for now. I tightened the round spring on the fast idle cam? By the throttle lever. So under suction the plate should open fully now. Ill be slappin it back together temp in a day or two so I can move the truck and well see if it works

Thanks for the help. carb works now. Primary butterfly shaft was binding fixed that, then it idled at 2000ish rpm fixed that. Now I get to run new fuel line and fuel pump wires, drop the tank in and tune er up the it'll be on to the cab floor to replace the cab mount sections
