Alright, I enthusiastically bolted my newly cleaned fuel tank to the truck thinking finally, my pos will be back on the road. I pour a couple gallons of gas in, turn my ignition, and hear my fuel pump spark up and then...nothing, it wont start. I crawl under the truck and my new fuel filter is bone dry. I let the pump work away for a couple of minutes and check again...still dry as a desert. I'm completely stumped. I've replaced every bit of the fuel system now and have had absolutely zero progress. Someone help...please!

The fuel line between the pump and the bottom of the supply tube in the tank are under suction. The slightest leak means you will draw air. Check every connection and the hoses themselves. See if the pump will draw gas out of a can on the ground. Also, the OEM fuel pump has a filter inside it. The end unscrews.

The hose is brand new, can't see a leak anywhere. I tightened all the clamps as tight as they'll go. I don't have any extra gas, but I can feel suction when I put my finger over the hose. The pump is brand new, probably 40 miles on it but has no built in filter. It seems like a pretty simple system, I really can't imagine what is going wrong because everything is new and in place. :?

Your pickup tube may be clogged. Put some compressed air to it and blow it out.

Well, I have no idea what the problem was but when I went to go remove my filter again gas just started pouring out and she started right up. Thanks for the help everyone.

The bad news is the gauge on my fpr is still reading 0psi so it looks like I'm back to square one, and my truck will probably continue to cut out going up hills and going over 25mph...now that EVERYTHING has been replaced, I can't for the life of me think what could be wrong. I guess I'll try another fuel pump and see if that accomplishes anything.

Alright, I tried it with no gas cap...It fired up and my second fuel filter (between the fpr and carb) filled with fuel, the pressure gauge built up to 2psi ( which is more than it's read in a long time) and stayed there for a few minutes. Then I pulled the throttle cable and put the engine under load and the pressure dropped to zero, the second fuel filter dried up, and the motor died.

Make sure the fuel filter is installed the correct direction. Some are directional.

Thanks for the help everyone! I've exhausted my options, so it definitely could use a new pump. I went ahead and splurged on this unit: http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Catal ... 020&Ar...I figure it's worth a a few extra bucks for a serviceable unit. Wish me luck.

Looks to be OEM unit! Filter inside on one end.

Yep. That solved the problem. In case y'all are curious, the pump I linked too bolts in to the stock location and, unlike most car-part these days, is made in the USA. I couldn't be happier.
