Hi guys, I'm new here. Please allow me to introduce myself. I live in the Caldwell, Idaho area. I bought a 1980 4WD LUV about 15-17 years ago for $400. It was crammed full with extra alternators, water pumps, doors, a fender, engine, etc. Oh yeah, it even had 4 new tires! When I got it the thing had 80,000 miles on it. The guy got into some trouble and needed some money, fast. Anyway, I have now got AT LEAST, 500,000 miles on it. And that was the last time the speedo worked, which was about 5 years ago. I am on my second engine (however, the starter from the original engine is on this engine!) A half a million miles on a starter.....
I have had to replace the head gasket about 6 or 8 times over the years, I can do it in about an hour now. It has the original tranny, front and rear ends, with no problems with any of those. I think I have replaced the clutch about three times. I rebuilt the engine at about 300,000. It leaks, is ugly, but has done anything and everything I have ever asked it to do. I don't judge how good something is by how much ABUSE it will take, I judge how good something is by how much USE it will take. With the exception of the troubles I just HAD, (and thanks to a couple of guys over on the STOCK TRUCK forum, I got it fixed in no time!), it has given me almost 2 decades of use. I have driven it on trips up into the mountains, and driven it around town running errands, and everything in between. I have had WAY TOO much weight on it, and pulled a dead GI 2 1/2 ton truck with it once for a few miles. It will start at -10 and cruise along in the summer.
My goal now is to hit a million miles. I realize it will get harder as it gets closer, but the way I look at it, I paid for the entire truck, for what 1 payment is for my 2003 Dodge diesel.
I will stay in my lane, and hopefully not piss off too many.
