18 Circuit Universal NON-GM switched
Well, I started installing the harness about 2 weekends ago.
So far, I've mounted the fuse box. I've got the headlights wired in. And, I started on the tailights this past Sunday night.
I was not able to keep the stock type ignition ( key, & switch ). I could not find a schematic on the ignition. I called Painless tech & told them the stampings on the back of the switch, But, Painless said their data for Luv/Isuzu only went back to '82. So, a GM type ignition for a Van (dashmounted) was too bulky on the back side, too fit in the Luv.
So, I went to NAPA (like the guy at Painless recomended) & bought a universal ignition with key for a forklift ( 4 pin ).
I called Painless tech back, & they told me where to wire in each wire ( I want to wire this thing right the 1st time!!! ).
I'll start on the interior wiring, once everything else is wired in. I've got about 50-75 wires laying in the floorboard right now, that's JUST for the interior, gauges, ignition, lights, ac/heat, dome/courtesy lights, radio, speakers (they even include wires to wire up 4 speakers) etc..
Pretty simple so far.
I've also, cut most of the wires in the engine area to length, for the alt., starter, etc..
One question I do have. Has anybody ran the ELECTRIC Auto Meter gauges???
This wiring harness comes with provisions to run ELECTRIC gauges. There are wires with Oil pressure, Water temp stamped on them.
SO, I figure I'll run the ELECTRIC Auto Meter gauges.........to keep from runnin the plastic or copper oil line, & the bulky water temp coiled line. Just to keep it lookin clean. I can just run 1 or 2 seperate wire looms, to hide all the wiring.
For example, the tailight section wires.
I ran the wiring in the cab to go under the carpet, out through the rear of the cab, into some 1/2 inch EMT conduit, along the dr. side framerail, across the shock mount crossmember, to the pass. side framerail, & out the rear, to the last crossmember, then, through some more wire loom out of the conduit, to each side of the truck to the taillights.
The wiring Harness itself. It's not as hard to do as I thought it would be.......BUT, it's not as easy as they (Painless) makes it out to be either.
Example: They do NOT tell you how to wire in your wipers, heat/a/c.
But, they show you how to wire in your lights/dimmer switch.....ONLY if you have a Chevy, Ford, or Mopar, thats it. No Luv/Isuzu, toy, mazda, etc.
