i got my new weber today, (monday 12/02/02) and got the kit installed. that sum b*tch runs like a scalded ass dog!!!! i like it. i was a big supporter in the idea of keeping a stock luv all original, but, technology rules! i have never driven my truck when it ran so good :D ! i am very impressed with the kit and the product. i would recommend anyone to visit this site, http://www.carbs.net and click on the weber pic on the main page just below the menu options. it is a wonderful kit with very good instructions. if you do a little searching, you can find everything you need to know about the carb right there on the site. i am happy :D :D :D :D :D

Is the adapter suitable for a full throttle opening? Did you rework the intake to match the oval shaped opening of the adapter? Technology is a good thing and this is only the begining. Next thing you'll know you got a suped up stock engine and it blows up so bad you cant rebuild. So the next logical step is a V-8! Trust me, its like heroine, your hooked! Only not so illegal and as dangerous. Welcome to the club, we've been waiting for you.

LOL Blue.

Glad to hear Grimace. Lot's of people come here asking about upgrades for the 4cyl. It sounds like you just found a good one. :)

well meanie, i have to sit down in the tooling shop and design a better throttle linkage. when this is done i will post pics of my design. i am having trouble getting the throttle cable to pull open to full throttle. it will be an easy fix. and i got the new style adapter with my carb. it is comepletely open without the two seperate ports, and is not offset to one side. they split the difference on all sides so the carb is directly centered over the intake. seems to run great but still need to redesign the throttle cable. thank you ben. this is an easy to do it yourself kit that took a little less than 2 hours to do. btw blue, i am serching for a stock 2 wheel drive truck to play with on the street. i made a promise to never modify my truck. i think the carb wont make anyone mad though  . maybe a little head work, some higher compression pistons, and better exhaust will be ok. probably better port the intake too. we dont want any wasted power :D Image the ultimate car.

Grimace, you sound like i did with the stock motor. Yes i was a happy kid in a candy store when i got my weber. Then the motor let go and i rebuilt it with some extra goodies. Then that motor self-destructed after 50,000 miles (with no hope of repair) So the idea of converting to a GM powerplant was an easy decision. A used GM motor and trans cost less than a stock engine. And it was the best decision i have ever made with the truck. Cars have came and went through the years but my luv truck is still here. I haven't hopped up any of the 4 GM motors i've had in the truck except for dual exhaust. The 4.1 motors needed a 4bbl carb and both of those motors were using carbs that were too fat. So in reality, the 4.1 motors aren't at peak stock potential. I will get a Holley someday(hopefully soon) but even with a weird carb, its still fun to drive. The quick remedy for the throttle is to bend the gas pedal upwards. this will provide more throw to pull on the cable. If you do get a 2nd truck and go with a conversion, i wouldn't be suprized if both trucks end up modified

If you guys want more horsepower, here is what I have done to mine (if you don't mind spending alot of $$):

1. I took the engine out of and Izuzu Impulse, this is called a G-200 and is a 2.0 motor. Take the head off of your 1.8 liter, the 2 heads are easy to tell apart. The 1.8 liter head will have an Izuzu emblem on the front of it, next to the heater bypass hose connection. The 2.0 liter will indicate G-200 on the front of the head. The 1.8 liter head has smaller combustion chambers = more compression. This will bolt on. The head gaskets are the same for both.
2. I match ported the head and intake and exhaust manifolds. Also, take the valves out of the 2.0 and put them in the1.8.
3. I bored the cylinders .020 over. Top Line makes a good set of pistons.
4. Line hone the main. Heat treat the crank. This allowed me to 0 deck the block. I took about .007 of an inch off. I shot pened the rods, and stress releaved the block. I currently am using a Weber DGAV downdraft carb. and a high end Crane cam, (light race). I have this connected up to a 5 speed trans. and depending on what gears you want to run, the automatic trans. version of these trucks comes stock with 4:10 gears which I am currently running. The stock gears are 4:56 on the manual trans. I think the 79 and 80's use 4:10 on everything. This is no BS. I just completed this and currently drive the truck and it hauls ASS, not V-8 hauls ass, but getting close to it. In addition I built a torque plate and used it when I bored the cylinders I estimate I'm running 10 to 1 compression. (Premium gas only, boys!) Higher if you can get it!!! :) The truck does well over 100 MPH and accelerates pretty fast if you can keep the rear weels from spinning-haha! I have lots of fun with this!!! Se ya!
