I just wanted to talk a little bit about an old issue, our financial situation.

As some of you know, this site does incur a monthly operating cost. I bear the brunt of that cost myself. I do it for several reasons, the main one being that there isn't another site like this one. Being a LUV owner myself, I can see the value of having an information source such as this one. I also enjoy meeting and talking with fellow LUV owners, and checking out pictures of other trucks. As long as I am able, I will continue to keep this site running.

Having said that, I would still love for the site to at least cover it's own operating costs. We have tried forms of income in the past such as advertising banners. They simply don't work.

Donations have worked better than advertising, but so far there have only been a couple of the same people making donations.

The t-shirts that we offered did support the site for a month or so, but my current job does not allow me the time to take on another shipment of shirts. Eventually, if my job situation changes, I may buy another batch of shirts to sell on the site.

I haven't said anything until now, but one major modification that I considered for this message board was a subscription system. People would have to pay a monthly fee to get access to all of the site. I actually installed it on a test board and got everything working, intending on installing it here the next day. But after thinking about it over night, I changed my mind and decided not to. At least for now. I would rather not force everyone to pay. I would rather people donate as they see fit and as their budget permits.

If you have found the site useful, and wish to help support the site, please go to the Site Support section and make a contribution. Like the page says, any amount, no matter how small is appreciated.

Whatever kinds of monthly fees needed to keep the site going, I AM IN!!
This might weed out some good members but it will kill off some losers.

It's hard to find a good host that gives you 5 IP's with a dedicated server that runs SQL and PHP for very cheap. I've seen what Ben pays for his hosting, and it is VERY reasonable for all that he gets. powweb blows it away though. Gotta wonder how it performs under pressure though.

I should probably cough up some cash for you hosting my site. Let me dig in my pockets and I'll shoot some over there.

Thanks the link, I'll look into it. In the past I haven't found a distributed hosting solution that supported all the features we need here but powweb looks promising.

Oh and the chick on their home page is absolutely mesmerizing. 8O

well the thing about powweb is that like, they seem to be losing customers or something, because it used to be a hundred bucks a year, and only give 500 megs, and had more restrictions,. but it seems every few months, they add more and more features. and they upgrade everyones account.. i went from 500 megs, to 750 megs, to a gig, now I find out I have 2 gigs and you get a free domain registration and no setup charge, and free PHP and a chick on the homepage!.. they dont tell their users when they upgrade everyones account though. hope it works, I own http://www.outrun.org and it doesnt seem to ever go down or anything so I'm really not sure why they are trying so hard to gain new customers by offering 2 gigs; they must be losing customers or something. the only issue I have is that it has to be all paid upfront.... if you DO decide to move there, can you use me as a reference? I get a free month,. and after seeing their site I see for signing up for a year you get 6 FREE months. man.. wish they offered that when I signed up!

Hey Ben,
I was going to donate a while back, but just forgot about it. As soon as I get my check I'll send you some money. It won't be what the site is worth, but I plan on what a monthly charge would be as per our conversation over a year ago.
The info in the " how to " section is worth a considerable amount. Think about it if you were to see this in a magazine, you have to pay four or five bucks for the mag, or have a subscription for twenty or thirty bucks a year. That page tells you exactly how to put a V8, or V6 in your truck by some one who's done it, taken pictures and gives you all the part numbers of stock parts that can be had for a few bucks from local autosalvage yards. It also tells you what Summit part numbers you'll need, and the fact that they are even available for Luv Trucks.
I'd be willing to bet one of the mags like mini truckin would run the piece as a one, or maybe two part article if they got their hands on it.
Just about every other site I go on has advertisers on it. Hey this is a truck site with a pretty good member base, and we buy tires, batteries, paint, auto parts, and accesories.
Some of these guys that sell parts to people like us could surely spend $5.00 a month on advertising. No pop up's please. Lovondope and myself recommend this site on HOTRODGOSSIP.COM often because there are so many guys that have found out that you can have a 2600 pound street/race truck that looks cool and goes together fairly easy.
Bottom line is I think the site is excellent and will soon be sending you some moolah.

hey ben.....i sent what i could this month....i totaly understand about the membership fee and why you decided not to do it.....i previously had no knowledge of the financal situation of the site untill you started this thread

i had an idea but it requires cooperation on a site wide basis....i can safely pledge $5 a month as it's not that large of a sum......,but that doesn't work unless you have 20 people a month doing the same thing.

this site has become a haven for info that i use on a daily basis(no joke),and i have no problem helping support it.
