Car Craft Spring Break Anti-Tour
March 19-20, 2005
By DF
Here’s the deal. On March 19 we’re driving from Los Angeles to Phoenix to celebrate spring break, and in the vein of the original CC Anti-Tour, we’ll barely have a plan. We’ll be wringing the kinks out of our winter projects with some full throttlin’ east on one of our favorite slabs on the road to nowhere—Interstate 10. Then we will show up in Phoenix for some drag racing on Saturday and indoor kart racing on Sunday. We figure it will take about 6 hours to cover the nearly 400 miles from La La Land to Phoenix, so we will be leaving the Car Craft headquarters on Wilshire at 9 a.m. sharp to make the gate and tech inspection at the track. That’s our whole plan, and you’re invited.
Stop One: Midnight Street Racing
Actually it’s 8 p.m. to midnight, and it’s not on the street but at Speedworld, where they have duplicated the felonious activity on a safe and legal racetrack. We’re bringing $20 to get registered and in the pool for the $100 payoff for the fastest street car. The track official makes sure trailered cars and race stuff can’t compete for the dough so there is a real chance to win, even in our just-finished and dubiously tuned street machines. All of this during a big Mopar weekend. Info for this is at

Stop Two: Indoor Kart Tracks
If you haven’t nerfed your buddy into the tire barrier in front of hot chicks in miniskirts then you need to follow us to the kart track on Sunday. It’s the one racing venue where we’ve actually seen hot chicks, and the laps are timed so you can show them how genetically superior you are compared to your buddies. You’ll need to show up early for this one (about 11 a.m.) because it’s first-come first-served. Info at

All of the details and maps are below, but here’s the gist:
• Start from 6420 Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles at 9 a.m.
• Drive east on the 10 for six hours.
• Call Speedworld and ask how to get there (Racer Hotline 623/388-2424).
• Meet us on Saturday night and ask us how to get to the kart track (or call 602/275-KART [5278]).
• Eat, sleep, blah, blah, blah … at a local hotel.
• Get up on Sunday and race karts.
• Go home and return to school/work with a story about spring break you can tell your parents/wife/girlfriend/mother/boss/lawyer.
