I just bought a motor, which I thought in the beginning it was a 350, then was told it was a 305. Anyway it sounded real good, and has a couple extra perks. 1- has a fairly new edelbrock carb,2-chrome edelbrock valve covers, and HEI dist. motor has gear drive which we all know sounds pretty cool. Anyway, paid $150 for the motor, and pulled the exhaust off the truck as well which was recently put on, and the guy said it cost him a couple hundred in it self. Guy was hurtin for cash is why I got it at such a good deal. Shit he even threw in a engine stand, and a extra set of chrome valve covers. So is a 305 a good motor?? Thanks T.

I think the 305 is a pretty general gm engine used in allot of stuff, camaros etc. I think any engine that runs is a good one. I have an engine that i was hoping was a 327 but after I searched the casting numbers on the block, I think it's a 350. At lest it's from the 60s and that will help with the emmisions thing here in colorado. P.S. I have never eaten at your families restaurant but I'll give it a try sometime.

All that for 150 bucks!?!? I would have jumped all over it.

definetly, the extras alone are worth it. I have had a few 305's in my day and they are good motors. they seems to be a smoother running engine overall than the 350, but are a little harder to make power with mostly because of the cubic inch difference. But for most applications they are just fine. You can even get stroker kits for 305 to bump it to 335.

yeah, i just got a L69 305 given to me a few days ago. It ran great in the 84 Trans Am it was in. Free motor and it's all there. So it looks like I have a build up to do.

all i know is that my K-5 has a 305 and it will power brake so its good enough for me  8) But seriuosly, the 305s have better flowing heads than a 350 and the only real difereance is the bore, pistons and rods.

yep the only difference in the 305 350 short block is the bore. some 305`s came with 58cc chamber heads and pretty small valves. so you could gain some performance by going to bigger valve heads. unfortunately you also need to change pistons in most casses to make up for the lossin cr. most of the bigger valve heads are 76 cc that could drop you a couple cr points.
