Last weekend I went to Oregon and got my first Luv truck. It's a white fleetside 75. I washed it down and scrubbed the Moldy gunk off, Sprayed the thin layer of mud off the undercarriage, and am very pleased so far. None of the wiring appears to be hacked and everything seems pretty unmolested in general. I'm pretty excited about it and need to find a Weber first thing so I can get her fired up. :D I am changing internet providers now so I will get some pics up asap.

While in Southern Oregon, I met up with Dennis and Toby from this site which was fun. They were both great guys and their trucks were sweet. I'm looking forward to my next visit to Oregon guys, hopefully in my Luv

Today I cleaned the interior out and mounted the new seat. It's a rear bench from a 91 full size blazer that I used to use in another car. It fits good and is pretty comfortable too.

I hooked up a battery to see what would happen. All the lights and functions worked except for the rear side marker lights and horn, even the starter :D . I couldn't try to start it beacause I took the old carb off. It says Solex on it and the stocker would have been a Hitachi so the rebuild kit I got won't work.

Solex... might want to rebuild that, and hold off on looking for a weber.

Problem is, I can't find a number anywhere on the carb. Since I have no idea what car it came from, how can I get a rebuild kit for it?

Yeah, get some part numbers off it too. I didn't know Solex made a carb that fit LUVs. It might be like the Holley 5200 though, a Weber in disguise. Webers usually have a model number stamped into the base of the carb, on the edge you would be able to see even with it mounted, not the bottom side.

Is there an adapter plate between the carb and the intake or does it bolt straight to the intake? I think the Weber adapter for LUVs also is listed for some Nissan/Datsuns, so maybe this is a carb off something like that.

I've looked over it numerous times and all i can find embossed in it is the word "Solex" with "Mikuni Kyogo Japan" underneath that. Thats it.

It has a black nylon type spacer with 2 different sized holes that was between the carb and manifold but it does not adapt the bolt pattern. It seems like its just a spacer.

I did a little searching and found that Opels used a Solex carb on an Isuzu motor. I bet there is an interesting story about how that carb came to be on a LUV. What I find on the Opel sites reads a lot like how we refer to Hitachi carbs here. Boiled down: take off that Solex and pitch it, replace it with a Weber.

That black spacer is found with the stock carb too. That part is normal at least. Sounds like someone just found whatever carb fit the bolts and put it on there.

Thanks for the info :D

Does anyone know how much it costs for the adapter and cable kit and whatever else it takes to put a Weber 32/36 from a Toyota onto my Luv?

IT IS ALIVE!!!....almost :)

Well, Since I got my truck I have been doing more looking at it and planning than anything else. As you may or may not know, my plans for this truck are to put the Luv body on my 82 Toyota 4x4 chassis. I had been thinking of getting a Weber for the Luv but since I'm going to be taking the body off in a couple months and will not use the Luv engine for the project, I decided not to spend the $$ on a Weber.

When I bought the truck it was said to have carb problems. When I got it home, I took off the carb which is not the original and is pretty rough and missing parts. My curiosity got the best of me today as to whether the truck will run or not with a new carb. I bolted the crappy carb back on, put in some fresh gas, hooked up some jumper cables and it fired right up! 8O :D However, it will not stay running. This carb is too thrashed to bother trying to fix but now I know that all I need is a good stock carb and I'm ready to drive! :D :D I'm pretty excited

UPDATE..

I totally scored today! I got a new (used) carburetor, a windshield, an automatic center console which I'm going to modify the top of to fit my manual, and......ahem.....a stepside bed! :D :D

I'm going to put the carb on tomorrow and drive it around the neighborhood (no tags yet) and see how everything else is working.

Thanks Toby. Hopefully when I go up there to visit I will be able to take it :D .

I forgot to mention that I met my 3rd member from the board today too. I got the carb from Leon, AKA "Where's All The Luv At". Very nice guy :smt023
