Hello, my name is Rogelio. Okay, seems I have a problem.

I own a 1980 Chevrolet C 20, and it runs and drives great! only problem is that its a 1980 C 20. I drive 50 miles a day to school and back, and another 15 - 20 for work. this is all in a day,. not only is it racking up some miles, but its wasting alot of gasoline. .. under some great pressure from my family and my peers, I'm thinking of buying a more gasoline friendly vehicle, but my 1 condition is that the vehicle be customizable. I dont want a cookie cutter, all fiberglass new car or truck. I want something I can do what I want with, something with little or no electronics, and best of all, something smogless!

my first idea was to get an 82 S10, but it still has to be smogged. so I thought for while, and then it hit me, a LUV! so I have a few questions and I would like you guys to answer HONESTLY about them, so it can help me decide if a LUV is right for me, so far I'm diggin' them.

just copy and paste the part below, and fill in the answers.

1.What kinda mileage?

2.hows the ride? smooth?

3.are these trucks peppy?

4.are parts expensive?

5.are these trucks expensive to buy? what would be a good priced luv?

6.do they come in automatic?

7.I'm 6'1", does it put me un an uncomfortable sitting position?

8.is the carb difficult to tune?

9.if I look to buy one, what kinds of troubles might I want to make sure
of?

10.I've seen stepsides, but are there longbeds and shortbeds?

11.can they be lowered?

12.I really like this red one, so I think I'm going to want this year, what year is it?

Now my woman won't agree with it, but she isn't my wife(yet) so I still have some freedom, and my parents wont like it, because I'm not going to sell my big one, I think I'm going to put it in storage, its my first car, I could never sell it.

here is its progress

anyways answers will be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance
Rogelio T

1.What kinda mileage? seems to be 18-25 mpg depending on the truck and how it gets driven

2.hows the ride? smooth? kinda rough, seems to get worse the more you lower or raise them

3.are these trucks peppy? can be, generally not bad for an old 4cyl. weber carb, header and offy intake(if you can find one) will all help (with a v8 installed definitely peppy!)

4.are parts expensive? Depends on the part. Some things can be pretty hard to find. Especially new, used parts can generally be found reasonably here, ebay or at a wrecking yard.

5.are these trucks expensive to buy? what would be a good priced luv? anywhere from $50 to 2K depending on the condition of the truck for a good 4 cyl. seems like most are in the $500 to $1000 range though

6.do they come in automatic? yes

7.I'm 6'1", does it put me un an uncomfortable sitting position? don't know, but there are quite a few taller guys that drive em...

8.is the carb difficult to tune? Get a weber.

9.if I look to buy one, what kinds of troubles might I want to make sure
of? Rusted floorboards, wiring, unusual noises, most of them will have cracked dashes.

10.I've seen stepsides, but are there longbeds and shortbeds?
Yes
11.can they be lowered? yes. Torsion bars in front blocks in rear

12.I really like this red one, so I think I'm going to want this year, what year is it? that looks like a 72 or 73. It still has the round taillights under the tail gate.

Question 7.... I am a 6' guy and have no trouble in fitting into or getting in or out of my LUV. I have the stock bench seat and it's not uncomfortable or akward.
