I am wondering what you guys have done for window crank knobs ? Any ideas ? Mine keeps falling apart, which I think probably most are that way. Any quick fixes ?

I would think any window crank knob will work. I would just go to the bone yard and upgrade to something a little newer. My .02 :D

I have a couple I had saved for someone that said they were sending money and never did if you want to purchase them.
Just let me know.

I have the cranks off of a Chevelle Back glass on mine, so I would think that most any of them would work. I just liked the "Stubby" crank on mine less turns!

I've rebuilt about 5 or 6 of them. If it is just the knob coming off (leaving the rest intact) it is about a 10 minute job to fix if you have everything handy to do it. Just pop the center cap off the knob. I usually stick a phillips screwdriver down the hole and bang the screwdriver handle end on the table, don't try to pry it out from the outside, it just makes a mess of it. Once you get it apart you can see how it goes together and how it might be fixed. I've done a couple just hammering things back down, a couple drilled out and a screw put in, and the last one combined hammering it down with a dab of epoxy for good measure. The drill/screw method seems the most reliable.

Thanks for the tips. Yeah, it is just the knob coming off, not the whole crank. The rubber cap was coming off at first, so I wrapped the plastic piece with electrical tape to make it thicker, so then the rubber cap stayed on better. Now the whole damn thing fell apart. I still have the screw, but like XL said, may have to try to use a different screw and re-drill. Just thought I would ask the question and see what ideas you guys had. Thanks again.

Rubber cap? Screw? Almost sounds to me like you already don't have stock handles. Stock ones should have all plastic knob and chromed metal for the rest. There isn't a screw in them from the factory. At least all the ones I've seen which should cover 75-80 trucks. I thought I had a pic of one, but it looks like I only have the back side from someone asking about the clip. I'll have to snap a couple more shots. I have two handles I keep meaning to repair for spares.

My latest LUV came to me with some of those cheap replacement cranks you see at the parts stores. They did fit, but one of them was almost completely stripped out inside and they didn't look that old. At least that tells you that the shaft size isn't too oddball and some standard replacements will fit.

No, not the crank, I am talking about the knob. Sorry for the mix up. I guess I should take a couple pics so you can see. Let me try to put it this way. It is the round part of the crank that you put your hand on to crank the window up or down. It is what, maybe an 1" or so in diameter. Sorry for the confusion. Will try to take some pics soon and put up so you can see what I am talking about if this doesn't help. Thanks again. :)

I knew what you were talking about, that pic is just what I had around and only barely shows the knob. I just put it up as an example of an stock handle overall. If yours looks a lot different, you'll know what I'm talking about may not help you specifically. I'll snap another pic showing the shiny side in a bit here and that should tell ya if we're talking about the same unit.

From what you describe it really doesn't sound like the original stocker handles. The knob is black plastic, little less than inch around, about 3/4 inch tall, and has only two pieces to it. There is a center cap and the main round bit. The entire works, knob, handle, and clip does not have a single screw in it anywhere. Well unless someone has already MacGyver'd it like I've been doing with mine. ;)

They are stock handles. I will just have to get a pic taken. Maybe Sunday will get to it. Then you can see what I have going on. Thanks again for all the info.

Maybe it isn't a factory knob ? I dunno, but here are 3 pics I took of the knob and parts. One pic shows the plastic piece that I wrapped with electrical tape to help the rubber cap stay on. In the pic you can see the bottom side of the cap and where the plastic broke. The screw, or rivit, came out of the back of this plastic. So what would be a good way to fix this whole deal, or where can I find some replacement knobs that work well ? Could I find something at an auto parts store ? Thanks again for all the info.
