Is that with a gas or diesel engine? And is it a 5spd or 4spd tanny?

Under 20 mpg w 1.8?? You got somethin wrong w that one! both of mine are 2.0s and 4x4. the blue has 1,200 miles on fresh rebuild and the green one has 63,000 actual and im getting 30 mpg all day everyday.....TRUE story.

Lil Blue: What octane do you run, and what is your typical drive like? (freeway/city/etc) I get about 25 with with a 2WD and closer to 20 with a 4x4. That is usually with 89 octane, though 87 doesn't do any worse really it just causes a slight ping pulling hills. If all I do for a tank is run around town I can pull either truck under 20 mpg. There was a thread about this a quite a while back and most people fell into the 18-25 range.

Must be they ship all the good gas down there to Texas or something. ;)

Okay, as i said....I have not one but TWO 1980 Luv 4x4s, both 4 bangers w 4 spd. One is far from stock w a fresh rebuild (1200 miles) and the other has 63,000 actual miles. No matter if empty, loaded pulling something, runnin round town or doing 80 on freeway I get 30 mpg w both of them. No more, no less, i know its kinda boring. would maybe expect a change here or there but NO. And......i buy the cheap stuff here which is 87 octane and even when i was in colorado and towing cars up mountain passes never, and I mean NEVER did mine ping or spark knock. never had that prob w any luv Ive had, but yet I hear of this all the time.
Im an old-timer (age 40) and me an chevy luvs go back to 1978 when in 78 79 and 80 i drove MANY of these little trucks straight off the show-room floor for my employers. At that time I was working for state of Idaho Parks Dept, and then idaho state fish and game as well. back them those lil trucks got mpgs mine are getting today. I dont know exactly what im doing right, Im just doing it (LOL) And as foir your question ......yes texas gas seems to be a lil better than the average, when my friend from colorado visited me a couple weeks ago he commented on how much smoother his 98 dodge truck was running and how it seemed a lil more powerfull once he filled up down here. True story, swear fo god!!

Sorry but as far as Luvs go i have no V8 advise to offer, but Im sure there are plenty of guys out there that can help you out w this.
Ive put V8s in ford couriers and Pintos, and its more time consuming than it is an expense, at least that was the case for me but then Ive been around garages, car-lots and salvage yards all my life too.
Nowdays Im just into my 4x4 Luvs and keeping them original.
I wish ya the best of luck w yours.**Duane**
