My dad used to smoke in one of our tractors and now three years later, it still reeks like smoke!! Does anybody know of a "trick", so to speak, to get the odour out of there?? I have tryed special air freshners and they don't do anything, the smell still persists. Im getting sick of that stale ciggarette smoke...any ideas??

Yep, Fabreeze seems to work well. Though if you can get any fabrics out and wash them (like say a seat cover or something) that helps a lot too. If you can really soak everything down with Fabreeze and let it air out several days that should put a big dent in the smoke smell and the fabreeze flowery aftertaste fades inside a week or two.

It will help if you can wash things at all before you treat it though. Carpet shampoo (in a rug cleaner machine if you have access to one) will do wonders for all sorts of smells. I've had good luck cleaning my truck with a lot of cleaner and a shop vac. Soak, scrub, vac most of the moisture up, soak with clean water, and repeat. This is the best season to do it too, lots of heat to dry things back out. (Hit 103F here today, ouch)

Well I picked up some Febreeze this morning, and sprayed in ALL over the cab this afternoon. It was almost dripping off the seat... . I had to get out of the cab when I was done spraying that stuff in there, wow, you could get high off that stuff!! Anyways, seems to be doing the trick, theres no smoke stench anymore....now its just an overpowering Mountain Fresh scent! The test will come when I climb into it in a week.

Plus I blew compressed air through the a/c system and all the filters, I'm gonna vaccum and armorall it yet this evening. Should be good, I will keep you guys posted if that Febreeze works or not...

If you end up with some left over smell, you might try running some fabreeze into those vents with the air nozzle. That smoker smell sticks to everything and in everything.

Simple Green is good to use to clean anything you can get to. Anything you can't get to Fabreeze is the stuff. 8)

Good point. Simple green is really good at removing odor from surfaces. My wife worked in a pet store that had adoptable cats from the humane society and they used that stuff on the kennels that got particularly bad off It seemed to work really well. It has a pine/minty sort of smell but it doesn't hang around forever.

What do you mean by Repaint? The interior of the tractor is all plastic and rubber, no steel. So theres nothing to repaint...if thats what you mean... :?

Are you talkin tractor as in cuttin hay, or tractor as in tractor trailer [semi]? I just had a picture of a cab that was all metal. Any ho, I would stick with the fabreeze idea. Just trying to help

Simple Green is kind of like 409. Its a spray and wipe surface cleaner.
It works really good and smells nice. It's a different animal than Fabreeze which you just spray on. On cloth/carpet you might also try Spray n Vac if they still make it.

I think the thing with Simple Green is that it is non-toxic which is not common for a cleaner that actually works. That was the reason the pet shop used it around the animals, because it wouldn't kill kittys that licked the clean walls. At least that is what I remember.

Perseverance will pay off. Just clean everything you can get to, any surface could be holding some smell on it.

Im talking tractor as in 4wd with a 1100 flywheel hp Cummins  We use it to pull the air seeder and chisel plow. The cab in this thing is like a house. CD player, cupholders, two seats, sound level is no more then a newer vehicle driving down the road  But anyways the cab consists of glass, plastic, rubber, and a fuzzy headliner type material. Very little metal. I just got to thinking that the headliner might be a big culprit...since smoke rises and that headliner would absorb the smoke. I think I can pull the headliner out of it and wash it down and spray it with some more Febreeze. Now...does anybody know how to get rid of the Febreeze smell....lol, just kidding.

This sounds realy stupid, but Ive seen it done and it worked. Take some regular coffee grounds( about 1c.) and place them in a cup. Slice an apple in half and place it on top of the coffee, peel side up. Put it in the vehicle with windows up and let it sit for a day. I saw this at a drive here pay here lot in some realy nasty cars. It did fail a time or two, but for the investment it might be worth trying.
