Hi. I am new to the board and I am wondering what is the criteria for determining wether a vehical is all original or not ? What can and can't
be done to keep it original ? I just purchased a 1980 LUV and I want to
keep it all original the best I can. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

well LUVs will probly be all original unless they have a webber carb an offenhouser intake or a header (V-8 goes whith out saying). Other than that and realy obvious things theres not much. Keeping it all original may not be the best idea as the Hitachi carbs can be tempermental, the webber carbs for em are great. Welcome aboard 8) :D

Original is good, but original STYLE is better... There are things on all of our LUVs that have been, or need to be replaced..... I say that as long as it has the looks of original, its original.... Like MEPR said, put a webber on it, as the stock one will eventually give ya shyt.... I like the idea of a sleeper... Looks stock from the outside, but have one hella motor in it....

I think that it would be considered all original if you replaced an item part for part if you are looking at it in a strict light.

But most if not all know that you can never do that most of the time, so you have to do what you can to be along those lines of original by having the parts on hand that you may need.

I think All original actually came by as having a vehicle where no upgrades have been done.

Thanks for all the info. I know that usual maintainence is probably not
to worry, new tires, air, oil, and gas filters, etc... What about if the truck
or part of the truck has been repainted in the past ? Can you change the
color and still be original ? I know dropping a V8 in it would not be
original. I know usually original means the motor and body numbers
match, but I guess that would not necessarily mean 100% original if
there were other changes. I just want to try to keep it all original the
best that I can and take care of it and make it last. I will have to send
my pic in for the gallery. I wanna get it all waxed up nice and take some
more pics. It is also missing a hubcap, but got some on eBay so they
are on the way. Thanks again for all the help.

well changing the color will through of being original. The paint code wont mach the color. But if i remember LUVs dont have a paint code so as long as its a factory color you could get away whith it
