If a motor bike is going 180 MPH towards the start line of a ¼ mile drag, and a top fuel dragster is at the start line, ready to go.
Witch one wins the ¼ mile race

too many undefined variables.

If the bike is in a different lane than the car, but travelling in the opposite direction. The bike will lose.

If the bike is in the same lane travelling in the opposite direction. They both lose.

if the bike is travelling in the same direction as the car in its own lane, if they crossed the line at the same time, the car would win. If the bike did not gain speed on the pass, the car had no mechanical difficulties, niether one red lighted, no one crashed before the finish.
the bike would take 5 seconds to complete the run at a constant 180mph from start to finish.(at least thats what I came up with) On a good run for the top fuel boys is under 5sec. car wins.

Heres my shot at it...

As diarmadhim stated...they are too many variables for such a general question. But as long as resonable assumptions are made a logical answer can be worked out.

Ok...each vehicle (dragster and the bike) have to travel 1/4 of a mile....or 1320 feet. The bike is already traveling at 180 miles per hour or 264 feet per second.

Say the top fuel car run a 5 sec run. (Just theoretical, easy number to calculate) That means he travelled 264 feet per second also.

So as long as we assume that both runs were flawless, and we assume that the top fuel car run a 5 second run, they were equal. Without a time its really impossible to calculate. But you can use logical numbers. Its just not the same. If the Top fuel car had a sub 5 second run..then he would win.

Just imagine riding that bike though. YOu whip by that fuel car at 180 miles and hour..then in like 4 to 5 seconds after that, hes right beside you..or passing you!!

Damn... 8O

This thread reminds my too much of math class! If a train leaves station 1 at 3:00 and is traveling 80 mph....nevermind...just got a headache!!

the answer
the bike is going in the same direction but the other lane
The bike is going 180 MPH or 264 feet Pr sec.
that means that it takes 5 seconds to go a 1/4 of a mile
in the real world the top fuel passes the bike at 330 ft mark
