ok here is the situation. I went to put on a new sfi balancer on the luv.{yes i finally got some free time and money to play with it} any ways I was tightening down the crank bolt when i felt the threads pull. no problem got out the tap and die set. went to drill the hole to the next size so I would have good threads. then I hear a nice snap the drill bit broke. yep it`s wedged in there. the bit snapped off about 3/4 of an inch below the edge of the crank snout, and is goes about 2" inches in. so give me some ideas on removing this s.o.b. other wise i`m gonna pull the crank and replace it. then I will have to convice the wife i need a new set of dome pistons. well at least i`ll try that is.

Don't they make some sort of an E-ZEE OUT type thing for this situation. Thing is, I don't know how well it would work on a snapped of drill bit...

not sure if an ez out would work on a drill bit. the metal of the bit is probably too hard.

yea I have contacted a few tool companies snap on, mac,& craftsman. to see if they had some type xtractor for drill bits no luck though.well I guess i`ll have to yank the motor then. I was gonna use the money for some 4.62 rear gears. but I guess that will have to wait again. oh well thanks

That blows. I hate it when a simple job ends up being a pain in the dick.

Is it possible to thread that 3/4 and put a bolt in that? With loctite and lock washer? 3/4 is a lot of thread. I know it's holding the harmonic balancer and pulleys, but it seems like that would work until you got all your parts for a rebuild. I don't know, I'm in the dark here and not able to look at it and see what you've got.

Die gringder / alot of time /and go slow! Also a old machinest told me a Diamond tip drill bit will do it .I have seen it done .But it is not easy. The tip of the Diamond bit will break as it goes through but it will do the job. It will be a rough job any way you go.
I have always been told that a bolt say 1/2" will wold as much as possible if threaded in 1/2" . I am sure this has exceptions with some of the high grade bolts that are being made today and depending on the material the bolt is going into. Also keep in mind Old Small blocks did not even have a bolt. Another possability is a stud. If you can get a stud and use a nut it would put less strain on the crank. But I have no idea where to get a stud that size. Good Luck
