Well I have started working on my truck. It broke down on my wife while I was in Kuwait the past year, Ok so heres the deal.... She said she was driving it and was coming back onto post to drop it back off, when she said she stopped at the gate to get in the truck quit and wouldnt start again.
Well I have played with it just a bit and it seems ,like I am getting spark but the truck just wont fire.... it turns over, but a little sluggish I think that is just cause it has sat for the last year. Well I am kinda at a loss and I am hoping that it isnt anything too major because I really need my truck, and since my 283 is in need of some work I have to try to get the truck running as fast and as cheap as possible.
BTW does anyone have any parts for a 283 they dont want???
Later
Husker

Well heres my new favorite thing to check. Fuel filter, my truck started being a pain and wouldnt restart on me so i pulled my fuel filter off and got a new one. They are only about $2. Its worth a try!

Fuel filter is a good place to start. I'm sure you know to get that year old gas out if there. If gas stayed in the carburetor for a year it could have turned into laquer which plugs up everything it can. Another thing to watch out for is fuel pumps and accelerator pumps live in gasoline, and when there is no gas they dry up and will not function properly, or at all.
Hope it's just a filter.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH
Well, I did everything possible as far as troubleshooting and I finally decided to pull the head  Well to my surprise the #2and #3 cylinders are full of water!!!!! so guess what?? Well anyway I pulled the head and cleaned it up and I found that someone before me had the head shaved because the #1 cylinder must have took a beating cause I can see some screw marks in the head! So luckily I have another head that I am going to put on and see if it will hold out for a bit.

Husker

might be a little more involved...but a 1.9 G200 swap could be in order. supposedly everything bolts up fine as well. i believe this engine was available in p'ups and early s10s

Hey Husker, Are you going to have the head checked? It's good to run a straight edge across it to see if it's true. Spending a few bucks to shave off a two or three thousandths is really good insurance against that happening again.
