Hi , newbie here with my LUV story & a couple of questions :

I bought a '81 LUV 4x4 in 1984 . LUVVVED that truck ! :D But the rear end locked up in '88 or '89 & I foolishly sold it to a guy . Long gone .:signimsorry

First question is (& I know I should check with my DMV) , but I have my eye on an out of state '81 but the owner says he "lost" the title . If he signs a bill of sale , can I re-title it ? I'm in Iowa .

Second question is directed at 4 cylinder motor-heads : This truck has a blown motor.....what would be the best replacement engine ?
Is their a more modern engine (Toyota , Nissan , other) that is mate-able to the Luv 4x4 transmission ?

You didn't mention -- is this gas, or diesel?

As far as I know, nothing but an Isuzu engine will bolt right up. But which one depends on the question above.

It is a gas vehicle . I'm basically looking to see if anyone has repowered a Luv with any kind of non-stock 4 cylinder engine .

Even if we're talking about fabbing motor mounts or redrilling trans holes .

It's hard to believe no one has done this before .

If we were looking at a 2wd, you'd have more options. The 4wd trucks often have issues with oil pan clearance.
