Just registered member, always used this site for references and troubleshooting, awesome guys on here decided to join and share some experiences. Just put a 327 in a 78 luv I picked up a couple months ago and the whole project has been trial and error breaking new ground. Just want to share some pics and see if anyone has some questions on a similar project. The motors not built, stock besides carb and intake but scoots the luv how I imagined. Th350 tranny, stock 2wd rear end (for now) northern radiator, manifolds of late 70s nova, flowmaster super 10s and ACE motor and trans mounts. I still have a couple questions of my own like hooking up the speedo, and getting the stock oil light to stay off, or actually function properly. Does anyone know if you can make the stock temp gauge work accurately? I'm also not sure about a where and tire setup, I'm having a real hard time hooking up and not spinning. Again, and questions or comments I could love to hear thanks.

[img][img][img][/img][/img][/img]Thanks I know! I've never had any experience with a sbc so since I didn't plan on building a motor at all the 327 seemed like a pretty cool stock motor to put in, especially for the price. Any suggestions on an affordable rear end with posi? I need more traction and would be nice to actually spin some descent cookies.

The cheapest option is one out of an s10. It is slightly wider, but the correct offset wheels will correct that...

That's the route I was thinking, but aren't the 4x4 rear ends wider then the 2wd? But the 4x4 has the posi, can you just swap the third into the 2wd housing?

Yes, as long as it has the same spline axles (some 8.5's had larger axles than others). Most 2wd s10 blazers had a posi also...

Welcome aboard! Good way to get the temp gauge working is to adapt the stock luv temp sender to fit a port on the Chevy, way I heard involved using a pipe plug the size of the Chevy sensor and drill/tap it so the luv sender screws in. I havent seen any chevy sensors that work with the stock gauge yet.

Definitely scoots along with the 327 doesn't it! Did you ever drive it with the 1.8 or was it bought to swap?

Oh ok good idea on the temp sensor I'll look into some fittings. I have an aftermarket one hooked up for now, never gets above 170-180 so that's a relief without an electric fan. Thank you for the s10 codes t g at helps a lot! And this one I bought to swap so never drove it, but I have an 80 4x4 with the 1.8 just webber and header and the 327 is a world of difference! I would post pics but it says their too big of file? Idk

Try downsizing them or upload to photobucket and resize before posting

I had the 1.8 for a couple years.. dropped in the 4.3 and haven't regretted if except at the gas station. Much more fun to drive and the torque is great hauling a load
