I have a nice little aluminum tool box from a 1st gen S10, and all the information I can find says the two beds are of similar width. Has anyone ever done this and does it actually fit? best info I can find suggests it does but, would be a pain in the arse to get it out if I wedged it in and it didn't fit...

the truck itself... and while I COULD drive it to the box, seems a waste of gas. from what I can gather of the specs between the two from the good ol' interwebs the specs between the two are only 2.5" inside the bed. that doesn't seem right - and why I asked here...

This is the best bed size chart I have come across online. There was a better one but the link went dead. I use it quite a bit for sizing up camper shells and such.

outside the reservation, about 65 miles from here. kid gets off school bus in 2.5 hours, I couldnt make it there and back in time in the luv. plus I wouldnt feel safe running it on icy roads with the tires it has... at any speed.

so if I read that chart right the luv's box is wider by 1/2"?

LB--LUV
78-80 93 1/2" 60 3/4"

LB--S10/Sonoma
82-93 91" 60 1/4"

from what I copy/pasted it looks like it. but I always had the impression the s10 was more a mid-sized truck?

I think the cab was the mid-size part. The S-10 and Rangers were slightly larger than the Japanese trucks. The frames and suspensions were much improved over the Japanese trucks. I bought a Ranger long bed in 1983 and it was much more truck than the Luv it replaced at the time.
