:?: so i just got this 1980 luv, 2wd manual. there is a transmission line or hose of some sort that sticks out top of the very end of the transmission. it was not hanging down when i got it. it dose not seem to affect how it runs but i dont want to ruin it. is it just a open vacume line or is i suposto hook up some where.

Look on the top of your differential housing. There is a little spring loaded cap, this is a vent to keep the differential from pressurizing as it gets hot & causing a seal to weep. There was likely a similar vent cap on the top of the tranny that someone has removed & replaced with a hose. It's not uncommon to extend these vents upwards to prevent water entering should the vehicle ford deep water.

yeah mine confused me as well when I first pulled my tranny but its just a vent line. mine was a 4x4 so it may be slightly different but it was only 2" long or so. may have had a little check/pressure valve but I think it was just a little black hose. been a year or so since I saw it last saw it

thank you! it does seem to be vent of some sort. I think they might have made the tubing a bit longer.
