Hey guys, so I decided to drive my 72 luv home to LA from Vegas. Half way down the road my water pump got loose and my fan broke causing the lower water hose to break too... Now one of my bolts on the water pump broke. Does any body know how I can get the other half of the bolt inside the block out without taking out the engine??

Well it won't be easy. I think I would just yank out the motor. But if you can't, pull off everything you can from the front of engin and radiator and drill a hole into the bolt get a easy out and back it out. Be sure to drill in the center use plenty penterating oil. ( i like Breaker Loose) If it did not break flush with block you may be able to get it out with vise grips. Hope this helps. Easiest way is to take it to a good mechanic

Be carefull using the cheap types of easy outs etc. They are usually made in China etc and are not as strong as USSA ones. However if they do break you will be removing the engine to have it removed (EDM) Good blacksmith can drill that thing down the middle and then he will just pick out the threads. Not me, takes a reeeeeal steady hand.

Another word of caution two of those bolt are in direct line with the cylinders and if you go too far you can crack or possibly drill into a cylinder and thats a big WHOOPS

Had a customer we machined his block. He went and threaded a long water pump bolt in and cracked the cylinder. Luckily he saw it and we were able to sleeve it and save the newly machined block.
