Im looking to make all my torque at 1000rpm to 2000rpm

what cam do you think is best? and i cant remember if a big block cam will fit in a small block.
my engine teacher past away some time ago. and i cant remember. i think it can.

the 383 is going in a luv with a 5 speed and 2.55 in the back.

i don't think my 4.3 is going to work. at 65mph. :?:

I think you'd be a lot happier with about a 3.5 gear in the rear with some tall tires - whether you change engines or not. That would put you around 2200 rpms at 70 in 5th. Low enough for gas mileage and high enough so it'll still respond to the throttle.

Big Block Chevy cam will not fit in a small block Chevy . Why make all the torque from 1000-2000 ? By choosing a cam specific for that range you are giving up alot of all around torque . There are SBC cams that will make broad torque from 1500-5500 rpm and have a nice flat torque curve .

Then your best bet would be to run the smaller motor and more realistic gears. It'd sure be cheaper to swap rear ends again rather than build another motor.

The 4.3 is a good motor, and they can make good mpg. Find a gear ratio calculator and play with it until you find the gear you need to cruise around 1800 rpms. If you're properly tuned and have a light foot you should make over 20mpg easily.

I don't think a 383 would be a good choice for mpg.
